In crypto margin and futures trading, liquidation occurs when your margin balance falls below the Maintenance Margin required by the exchange (typically around 0.5% for Binance/Bybit).
Knowing your exact liquidation price is critical. A momentary flash crash or wick can instantly liquidate your entire position. Use this Liquidation Calculator to determine where to place your Stop Loss, ensuring you exit the trade before the exchange liquidates you.
Isolated Margin: Limits your risk to only the margin assigned to the open position. Your liquidation price is fixed based on your entry and leverage.
Cross Margin: Uses your entire wallet balance to prevent liquidation. Your liquidation price will move further away, but if the market crashes, you could lose your entire wallet.
Liquidation is the forced closure of your position by the exchange when you no longer have enough margin to keep the trade open. You lose all margin allocated to that position.
In Cross Margin, your effective leverage is your total position size divided by your total wallet balance. A 100x position backed by a massive wallet might only be 2x effective leverage.
Always set a Stop Loss *before* your liquidation price. Use our Position Size Calculator to ensure you're risking a manageable percentage of your account.
